I only had problem with gedit (3.18.3-0ubuntu4) run as administrator.
Installed bamfdaemon and libbamf3-2:amd64 both version 0.5.3~bzr0+16.04.20160523-0ubuntu1.
Still no menus when gedit is run as root.
