Restore to new host or reinstalled system

Asked by scuba

Hi BiT team,

thank you for a great backup solution!

I use "Trusty 14.04" with the standard repo's (BiT 1.0.34). When I move my files to a new host or want to restore my files to a new system, Germar suggests I disable "Auto Host User/Profile/ID" and set hostname manually.

That doesn't work for me... I don't know where to disable "Auto Host"... I guess I'm a noob or I misunderstood something :-)

Another suggestion: create a link to old backintime and "a" for away.

Yet another suggestion: use PPA's and get the latest version.

My way, the looong way:
install new system -> change hostname /etc/hosts -> restore with BiT -> change hostname to new name. So I get my Data but I lose my increments.

Three ways to work around, and my "noob" method.

Please point me to the first solution, where do I disable "Auto Host". Do I do this in BiT config?

Many thanks

scuba

In that old version it's hidden under Settings > General > Advanced > Auto Host / User / Profile Id

Take a look at http://imgur.com/Q3f4kGJ

I completely removed that in version > 1.1
Current versions also help you by automatically restore your old config. So the easiest way is to use current version from our PPA

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bit-team/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install backintime-qt4
