automake 1.16.1 available for bionic?

Asked by Nicholas Youngblut

I need automake 1.16.1 to install the httpuv R package, which is a dependency for other packages. As far as I can tell, automake <= 1.15.1 is available for Ubuntu 18.04.5. Is that correct? I don't want to go through the hassle of updating the OS on a multi-user system just to install a couple of R packages, unless I have to do it.

Yes you are correct automake 1.15.1 is the current latest package for Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic.

Ubuntu 20.04 Focal has the version of automake you are looking for which is not available for Ubuntu 18.04.
"no rolling release"

There is a PPA https://launchpad.net/~savoury1/+archive/ubuntu/build-tools with that version (standard disclaimer for PPAs applies of course). Maybe that serves your needs.

Can you help with this problem?
