recording from cassette tapes

Asked by mr lee

I am not sure which program to use in order to input cassette tape (music) onto my computer. I have the appropriate cable from the player to line input, but I'm not getting anything. Also, if I just let the tape 'run', will there be a way I can edit afterwards, or will I have to monitor as I go? Thanks very much

Please enable all repositories in Ubuntu Software Sources, to do this:
Using System->Administration->Software sources [Ubuntu software tab] please enable (Check the checkbox) all the showed repositories rows.

There a lot of applications you can use but i choose the simplest: qarecord, gnome-sound-recorder and little bit complex Audacity it can also edit, mix and convert to other format audio track.

open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

We add also mp3 support using the ubuntu-restricted-extras package.

First please install https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install audacity ubuntu-restricted-extras qarecord

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Hope this helps
