How do I install Audacity in Ubuntu?

Asked by stringbender

I previously have been using Audacity in XP and have switched to Ubuntu. I have a small home recording studio that I use to record my bands original songs. Always before when I was using XP all I had to do was download the latest version of Audacity, install it and start using it. Now, when I have tried to download and install it I can't seem to get it to work. Any help is appreciated because I am a very new user of Ubuntu. Thank you in advance for your time.

Connect to the internet. Open a terminal. Input the command: sudo apt-get install audacity

You must read this : https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/add-applications/C/index.html

3 methods :

-Easy : the upper left menu Applications, Add/remove, search for Audacity, and install it - you will need your user password
- More or less the same : System, administration, Synaptic, enter your password, and then search for the package Evince
- or just, open a Terminal (in accessories) and type "sudo apt-get install synaptic", enter the password, and let the thing work.

So, as you see, installing a software is very easily done directly via Ubuntu, no need to search, to download, everything is taken care of.

You must know that .exe for windows will not work on Ubuntu - except using a kind of "emulator", wine, as Mac software do not work on windows...

And I recomend you to read the documentation for new users : https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/ , and if you have a problem just Google it ( kind of "Ubunty hardy + my problem"), it will help.

Enjoy !
