Audacity menus and dialogs open behind other windows

Asked by VanillaMozilla

The dialog windows (e.g., the File menu) will often open behind the Audacity window or behind windows from other programs. It can be quite a challenge to get to a menu. For example, if you activate the file menu either with the mouse or keyboard, it can be quite a challenge to select "Exit". For a separate window such as the "Effect > Amplify..." dialog, you can move windows around and find it, but this can be quite tedious.

It's an intermittent problem, and I don't know what triggers it. The only partial workaround I have found is to place the Audacity window at the bottom of the monitor, mostly off screen. This will often force dialogs to open where they can be seen. This is not very practical, since it interferes with viewing the sound file.

Is this a known issue? Is there a good workaround or repair?

I suggest you report a bug. You may be able to sidestep this by installing a clean install of Precise when it is released :)

This was listed as "answered", but if anyone has more information on a workaround, I would be grateful.

The problem has long ago gone away on its own. Marking this as solved.
