How do I set up Audacity using Ubuntu 10 Latest Lucid. For example Line-in Etc.

I am at present recording Church services using a programme called
Isound on Xp. As I have had Ubuntu on a computer since it was first
launched and update to every new version I decided to attempt recording
using Ubuntu and Audacity but don't seem to be able to get it to work.
My problem seems to be setting up Audacity . I am using a tape recorder
as the sound source and plugged into line - in on the computer but need
to know how to set Audacity to record mode. Any help on this would be
very much appreciated. John E Kennedy

Can you try the instructions here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/CheckForMutedMicrophone
Only that you choose "line in" instead of "mic" as the connector (fig 2).

Can you help with this problem?
