I can't get download manager to work, error message???

Tried to upgrade to firefox 3.5 using answer#76445 with the terminal and now I can't get the Update Manager to work, error message:

:Type 'echo' is not known on line 54 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.'

Open your file /etc/apt/sources.list with a texteditor eg:
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

remove all lines which start with 'echo'.
