Archive folders for Ubuntu vivid (15.0.4)

Asked by Roger

Hello all,

I understand that this version is no longer supported, but I bought a project board that recommends this and I am not smart enough to upgrade it before trying it.

My problem is that I get a error of Err http://us.archive.ubuntu.com vivid/main Sources
  404 Not Found [IP: 2001:67c:1562::19 80]

when i try to do a sudo apt-get update.

I managed to find the files
parallella@parallella:/etc/apt/sources.list.d$ more ubuntu-sources.list
# newer versions of the distribution.
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid main restricted
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid main universe
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid main multiverse

i added US to the front of them but that didnt seem to help much.

I don't know where to find these "Needed" files, or if they can be commented.

I also get this one later down the list
Ign http://ports.ubuntu.com vivid-updates Release
Err http://ports.ubuntu.com vivid/main Sources
  404 Not Found [IP: 2001:67c:1360:8001::22 80]
Err http://ports.ubuntu.com vivid/universe Sources

I have not yet tried to fix these, as I typically start from the first error :)

any help you guys can give me to fix this would be appreciated

Vivid is no longer supported in any way. It is end of life. There are no packages and no updates for it. I suggest you wipe the install off and do a clean install of Xenial. Xenial is LTS and supported til April 2021

this could get ugly, but I'll give it a shot. this is one of the parallella boards with lots of drivers that I know nothing about yet :(

But thanks for the advice, I will try

I searched for parallella boards. What I found is a mess. Some people have limited results with Ubuntu 16.04. Most information is a year or two old. Do you have 10 or 11? I think a company that builds a board like this, and fixes it to use short term release like 15.04 and not a LTS 16.04, is incompetent. The sites below may be of some help. Wish you luck.

I have the P1601-DK03.
I am trying to update to 16-04 ubuntu.

The parallels and Parallella are different things as far as I understand.

If I need Parallels, I can go with whatever I want, I believe.

I also just learned that the CPU is 32 bit, which may be why the linux system won't install properly

Can you help with this problem?
