Asked by SoftwareGoddess

Unable to update software or install new packages after installation of NVIVIA's JetPACK for TX1. I7 laptop running 16.04 LTS. I noticed it when I was try to install git so I could install CAFFE. No proxy server and I have internet access.

Thanks for the help! I am pulling my hair out on this one.

I followed the instruction to create a dump of terminal commands and results as requested for debug from the trouble shooting procedure.

Here is the output:

You probably have an Intel or AMD CPU in your system, but you are also trying to load the package information for arm CPUs.

Do you really need the packages for arm64 architecture?

If you do not need these packages you should remove the arm64 information from the package management settings with the command
sudo dpkg --remove-architecture arm64

If you do need them (because you do cross-compiling etc.), then you have to rework your sources.list configuration, because the packages for arm64 are available only on the ports.ubuntu.com server. You have to duplicate all lines, something like
deb [arch=amd64,i386] http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial...
deb [arch=arm64] http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports xenial...
