Is it related to this 1.0.8 version of Avast4Workstation?

http://www.ivizsecurity.com/security-advisory-iviz-sr-08013.html

http://www.netwinsite.com/surgemail/help/avast.htm

Sorry i couldn't find much that's useful and didn't have any experience of using it - i tend to use ClamAv from the Ubuntu repositories

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

I would go up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administrator - Synaptic Package Manager

and use either search tool to find Avast but at the same time as uninstalling that try installing ClamAv or something.

Good luck and regards from

I followed your guidelines to uninstall avast 4 workstation. It has been removed from the system. But from the Application>Accessories> avast still exists. How can I remove it.(First I install avast using GDebi Package Installer. But there is no change.Hence I again install it from the Terminal).,whether I should also uninstall it from the Terminal also?.Please guide me.

Right click on Applications and choose "Edit menu" then simply untick the shortcut you see there - it's not really part of the program, it's just a shortcut that didn't get removed.

To completely remove it sometime when you boot up your machine choose the grub menu item for Ubuntu that has "Recovery Mode" at the end and choose "clear some space" and a couple of other options there should help tidy things up a bit. I think it's probably a good thing to do about once a month anyway.

Good luck and regards from
