Software Updater and Software Center wont open on Ubuntu 14.04

Asked by Gunnar

I recently have not been able to open the Software Updater/Center on my computer. The only thing that i thought of doing was updating apt-get in the terminal. Here is the terminal output from this:

I believe that this means that a package from steam is causing a problem with the Package Manager. I then did a Google search for a way to fix it and found a tutorial thing (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PackageManagerTroubleshootingProcedure) that told me to post some terminal output on here. I followed the tutorial and here is the output:

Looks like your PC is having issues with the Steam repository server.

Seeing [arch=amd64,i386] in the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/steam.list file looks strange to me....

Please try these Terminal commands:

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/steam.list

sudo apt-get clean

sudo apt-get autoclean

sudo apt-get update

That should solve this issue....
