Can't launch Ubuntu Software Center. Can't run software updates. Can't open video files d/t open dependencie as indicated by successive error messages to this effect.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade produces this result:
E: Malformed line 47 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)
E: The list of sources could not be read.

- open the Terminal
-run:
 sudoedit /etc/apt/sources.list
- enter your password if asked
- press Alt+G → enter 47 → Return
- put a # at the beginning of lines 47 and 48
- Press Ctrl+X → Y → Return

Now try to update and upgrade again!

Where did you get the commands or guide to achieve this? The words 'apt-get' do not belong in sources.list
