The problem is not yours.e
This appears that you will though have to wait.

The error is caused by " ure : Breaks: libreoffice-core (< 1:4.1.2~) but 1:4.1.1-0ubuntu1 is to be installed"

You will have to wait until a update for ure is released, because the version is lower then is needed for libre office to be upgraded

You are using Ubuntu 13.10 saucy salamander, which currently is in development.

Being a development release means that things are not yet expected to work flawlessly, and changes are to be expected frequently.

You should embark on a development status release (and enable the -proposed repository) only if you know how to cope with software problems.

What you can do:
1. erase your 13.10 system and install a supported version from scratch
or
2. live with the status as it is, hoping that the dependecy problem will be solved by some package updates during the final development of 13.10 (due to be officially published on October 17)
or
3. dig deep into the dependency problems (they seem related to libreoffice) hoping that it will be possible to identify the root cause.

install synaptic.
the search for "ure". click upgrade. (This WILL remove libreoffice) after that you can update your packages but you will not have libreoffice

I would strongly suggest you remove saucy (13.10) and install a supported version.

The version number 13.10 indicates that its due to be released some time in the 10th month (October) of 2013. To be specific it's due out on October 17.

See here:
http://linuxg.net/cannonical-has-announced-the-official-date-for-ubuntu-13-10-saucy-salamander-release/

Prior to that it's still in development and it's not unusual for parts of it to be broken from time to time. Development releases are only intended for developers and testers who accept the system is not yet fully stable and are prepared to trash them at a moments notice.

Thank you Gentlemen for your help. Uninstalling LIbreoffice has corrected the problem for the moment. I understand I am running a proposal and am fully content to read and read and read about troubleshooting and learning to use Ubuntu. My only regret is not learning what I am learning twenty years ago. Please forgive me if I'm wasting your time. The above comments allowed me to confirm what I was seeing before I posted the question. I'm dual booting Win7 Ultimate x64 and running Ubuntu on a secondary hd. Once again, thank you for your time and trouble. I honestly don't see how I could learn what I'm learning running a stable release, but, I could be wrong.
