When I try to do software updates, I get a message that says not enough free disk space. Update needs at least 41.1Mof free space. empty trash and temporary packages from former installations using sudo apt-get clean
I have had Ubuntu 13.4 for several months and it is running in a Dell inspiron 1520 laptop.
After running it for several months, I started to received a pop up window that stopped me from downloading any updates.
Not enough free disk space
The upgrade needs a total of 41.1 M free space on disk '/boot'. Please free at least an additional 21.5 M of disk space on '/boot'. Empty your trash and remove temporary packages of former installations using 'sudo apt-get clean'.
This I copied right off the pop-up window.
I am running a dual boot with Win. XP Pro and Ubuntu 13.4, no other previous version of Linux or Ubuntu on my system.
This is the only real problem I have had.
I thought that going into the hyperterminal was the way to go to enter the "sudo apt-get clean".
Then it wants me to enter a username and password, I tryed what I think is my username and password but it doesn't work.
I just want to be able to download updates.
So, how can I do this?
I have a copy of Ubuntu 13.4 on dvd if I need to reload it and kinda start over, but I would rather try to figure out to fix the update download problem.
What do you recommend?
How do you fix this??

Thank you for answering back .
I did what you said.
I opened terminal
This what it opened with installerdave@
I entered sudo apt-get clean
This what it says now, the same thing in the first line installerdave@
When I enter sudo apt-get clean, I get the line installerdave@
Nothing else happens.
In the email I recieved, it asked
What is the output of:
uname -a; lsb_release -a; dpkg -l | grep linux-image
I couldn't enter this like, I don't have some of the symbols in the line.
