I think I can type the following...but where?! I'm not very good at these things :(

1.) sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/*
2.) sudo apt-get update

Can you give the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; apt-cache policy software-center

Thanks

Sorry, what do you mean? Do you mean, what happens when I type what you said somewhere?

When I type commands into the 'terminal' on the 'dash' it just keeps coming up 'sorry, there is nothing that matches your search'

Cheers for your help! Sorry I don't understand...

Or if you use the menus, you can launch gnome-terminal

Hey dude, thanks for your help.
In the end, someone answered somewhere else on Ubuntu that Terminal is a program that I have to search for. Once I found that I entered the command 'sudo apt-get update' and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Cheers anyway! :)
