Error from archive manager when trying to download anti virus

Asked by bob sutton

I get the following error message from both Firefox and Google Chrome when trying to download anti virus software in Ubuntu 12.4.

Archive: /home/bob/Desktop/avg_isct_stb_all_2012_2193.exe

End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/bob/Desktop/avg_isct_stb_all_2012_2193.exe or
/home/bob/Desktop/avg_isct_stb_all_2012_2193.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/bob/Desktop/avg_isct_stb_all_2012_2193.exe.ZIP, period.

Hi there,

i fully not suggest you to install anti viruses like avg on Ubuntu. it's not save and version which you want to use if default for windows platforms. Ubuntu is safe and virus free software and you don't need to worry about viruses. Unless if you anyway want to install this anti virus you need to first install Wine (Windows program loader) and then you could install this software.

If again, If I were you I would not do this!

If you just want to download this software you can get it by running this command in terminal: wget <your url to software>

If that helps you solve your question, please mark thread as solved.

Regards,
Miha

Thanks for the answer. I have two more. I am new to Ubuntu.

What makes Ubuntu virus free or protected?

Second when you say go to terminal what do you mean by terminal?
