I also suggest you run:

sudo ppa-purge ppa:mozillateam/thunderbird-stable; sudo apt-get update

That will remove the PPA you have added as it does not support Oneiric.

Why are you using samba4 anyway?

 to answer your 2nd question i didn't know i was using samba 4 , does this matter? , but dont i need samba so i can share this computer with my media centre .

Uninstall samba4 and install samba. You more than likely do not need samba4 and the standard method of sharing folders with windows is to use the samba package. That is why it matters and is why I asked. There are special cases where samba4 is needed, yours probably isn't one of them.

greg, unless you don't fix the root cause on apt please refrain from installing anything at all at the moment, this will only repeat over and over again that apt wants to see a dpkg-configure.
Or do you clean up the house before calling the police after someone breaked in?
Basically saying, don't make step 2 before step 1.

If the killall <package> isn't recognized then they're not running.
In case you're uncertain please post output.

The GUI is the Graphical_User_Interface of an application.

The mozillateam PPA does't support Oneiric, hence the errors. Command will remove the PPA in the old school style and be ok.

hi andrew updates are working but the add security exception is still happening, for incoming email , have to tick get certificate or cancel for it to work , but still keeps popping up.
