error in updating

 im using ubuntu server 11.1. when i type "sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude upgrade"

Need to get 0 B of archives. After unpacking 0 B will be used.

Its suppose to download and install new updates which i suppose to confirm

What do I do now could some please help me

I see that this is the backports repository, you should disable it because it will install non-stable software on your pc.

To change the sources edit /etc/apt/sources.list

It doesn't seem to be talking to the servers. Test the network connection and settings if you are behind a proxy/firewall.

That tute is three years old. I would have said the correct way was to use the back-end command apt-get rather than front-end aptitude:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
