UPDATE APT -GETUPDATE IS NOT WORKING

Asked by sivaramakrishna

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

This sounds like a problem with your network or configuration, not with Launchpad, so we won't be able to help you in great depth here. But if you know what server you got the error for, try opening it in a browser. Chances are that you get the same error, or if not, that re-running apt-get will fix the problem.

If you have a persistent problem talking to the server, you may be using a proxy that's causing trouble. Disabling it may help.

Please no not add questions and details related to another topic (hadoop vs. apt-get) to a question, but open a new question for the new topic.

And for the question related to apt - what is the current status? Are you now able to do updates using the proxy?

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask sivaramakrishna for more information if necessary.
