Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug. There is also a vibrant support community available at http://askubuntu.com and you might consider asking your question there.

Can you give the output of:

lsb_release -a; sudo apt-get update

Thanks

but when I tried to get updates it told me to report a bug why is that?

Not sure, never seen that. Can you give the output of the command

Thanks

as you can see I am not a tech head my son put kubuntu onto my computer because I was sick of windows I don't know how to give you the command but thanks for being patient with me I just keep trying till I work things out

Copy and paste the command to a terminal and hit ENTER. Type your password (you will get no feedback but keep typing). Copy the output and paste the text here.

Thanks

that is very funny went to askubuntu to get help and just ended up going insane
won't answer a question just keeps giving me irrelevant data

From the information in the original bug report, it seems that you are running Ubuntu release 9.04. This release will not update because it has reached end of life as at October last year. I recommend you get your son to install Ubuntu 10.04 LTS which is supported until April 2013

Chris
