I'm affected by bug #346386.
It's tagged as 'fix released' but no instructions how to access the fix.
How do I apply the fix for this bug?

see https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+faq/1591

(remark: the 'fix released' refers to the fact that the package version for oneiric has got additional code to prevent that problem, but that does not help for older versions of ubuntu, and also does not help if you have already such situation on your system.)

I was sent an email, on how to fix bug. However I am not sure what it all means. It says to open in a terminal. But not sure where to find the terminal or exactly what to do. Please send me a step by step way to do this as I am not real computer savvy. Also need and have tried to upgrade from 11.4 to 11.10. The upgrade will start downloading files, then stop, and an encountered error message pops up, and behind that window is the original message of the stated problem.Thank you for your patience and help.

@karen:

see FAQ 1591 https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+faq/1591

The last 5 lines describe how to open a terminal (ctrl-alt-t) and the commands to execute in the terminal window.

This might also solve your problem with the upgrade, if not please create a new question document for the release upgrade problem https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+addquestion

Can you help with this problem?
