apport add information to existing bug

Asked by Micah Gersten

Binary package hint: apport

Would it be beneficial for apport to allow adding crash data to an existing bug or is it better to open a new bug and mark it a duplicate or merge it in with the old one?

It's not currently possible (as far as I know) to attach a crash file to a bug report (which may already have a crash attached) and then get it retraced.
You could get it to work by attaching a crash file and adding relevant apport-retrace tags, but if I remember correctly that did not work for me when I've tried it.

Therefore, please submit a new crash report as a new bug (which then can get retraced etc) and either mark it as dupe of the original bug (and mention an available backtrace / additional info there), or merge the old bug into the new one (if there are no comments yet, for example).

This depends on the situation, but in general its good to have a crash in a separate bug, at least that's how I understand/use it.
