Firefox crashes when US newspapers try to download multimedia connections. Hard drive thrashes, screen dims, computer becomes unuseable.

Asked by Roger Houghton

Binary package hint: apport

Using Ubuntu 8.04 release.
Page loads, say N Y Times, and displays normally until one of the later packages causes mouse to become unpredictable, hard disc to thrash and screen to grey-out for long periods. Only remedy I have discovered is to cut the electricity and restart.
I don't know what I am doing, sorry.

May be something related to your RAM memory

Try to perform memory test:

- At boot when you see the GRUB row press ESC at first showed menu, select the item "Memory test" to test your pc ram memory

Ubuntu ....., memtest86+

Please run this test for many hour (entire night)

Hope this helps
