Computer won't suspend

Asked by Jim Chatman

When I select 'Suspend', after a few seconds, the monitor turns off, but nothing else happens. To check this, in the past after being told in the #Ubuntu IRC channel that I wasn't waiting long enough - typical bad #Ubuntu answer - I have changed the power settings so that my machine doesn't turn off and let it run overnight. It still didn't suspend.

I might be able to help with this, but first you need to tell me what version of ubuntu you're using, and the make and model of your computer

Do you dual boot the system?
Do you have the latest BIOS?

Okay, this might help : http://nixliving.blogspot.co.uk/2010/03/workaround-for-broken-ubuntu-suspend.html

Strictly, this is from 2010, but the command may still work.

Hope this helps

1. No, I don't dual boot.
2. The BIOS was updated within the last month.
3. I have no idea what "lsb_release -a; uname -a" means, nor do I know what the "output" would be.

4. I decided last night to toss this old laptop and this morning I bought another Samsung Series 9 as my kitchen counter machine in order to eliminate all Ubuntu related issues.

I thank you for your time.
