how do I uninstall the webserver daemon in Ubuntu Karmic (9.10)

Asked by Tony Leenen

I installed Ubuntu Karmic succesfully. I would like to install Xampp. Therefore I have to stop the webserver daemon which automatically starts each time U. starts. I have tried "initctl - - system stop apache2" and avahi-daemon.
The last one stops indeed but I still get the webserver loading using localhost. How can I uninstall the webserver from Ubuntu ?

Many thanks for your answer by return

The "A" in Xampp is Apache, there is no package simply called xampp, it stands for X, Apache, MySql, PHP/Perl. You probably want to install extra packages to complete the set rather than remove the webserver.

Thank you for answering my question. It doesn't solves the problem. However a couple of hours ago I managed to remove Apache2 and mysql and install xampp (lampp) in order to have my localhost preconfigured as I would. Thank you again for responding.
