Use webcam on MSN!

Asked by Heidi on 2009-02-23

I want to beable to use webcam while I am using MSN, which I can't. Boring using it without a webcam. Cause I signed on on penguin and I can get msn on from that, but no webcam while I talk on msn, which it sucks! Anyways that I can download msn that is on Ubuntu, and able to use webcam? Cause I don't like talking on msn without a webcam.

I finally got it by myself! I went to www.megaupload.com and download amsn_0.97.2-1.deb, all you have to do is download free membership, which you can talk, chat and use webcam on MSN! It is great! I like it a lot. Ubuntu is a lot better then windows!

Just go to www.megaupload.com and download amsn_0.97.2-1.deb, just download free membership, it work great!

Please prefer signed packages already included into repository you don't need to install amsn from megaupload... (strongly not suggested).

To install amsn from official Ubuntu repositories :

Please first enable the universe repository:

Open System → Administration → Software sources → [ Tab Ubuntu software ]
enable "Community Maintained open source software (universe)"
Close and confirm the repository reload.

Then open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:
(if the system ask you a password give your user password, you will not see nothing when you type it, then press enter)

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install amsn

You will find amsn and pidgin under Applications → Internet menu.

Hope this helps

If you install amsn as well other applications using repositories when an upgrade is released Ubuntu automatically will install it.
Deb packages installed by hand WILL NOT automatically update/upgraded.

So please remove the installed amsn open a terminal type:

sudo apt-get remove amsn

Then install the amsn coming from repositories following my previous answer.

Hope this helps
