The only way to run Windows applications on Linux is through the use of the "WINE" translation/emulation layer. However, Messenger Live specifically is not yet working very well with Wine, so you can't run MSN Live on Linux. Some of the older versions are OK though, see: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=127

It would be far better to find a native Linux client similar to MSN and use that instead, such as eMeSeNe, here: http://www.emesene.org/
You should try to install this from the Ubuntu repositories, if possible. There are other MSN compatible clients as well, the default chat client "Pidgin" also supports the MSN protocol.

As for RealPlayer, there's a native Linux version available as I recall, so to answer you question, yes you can run RealPlayer on Linux. What version of Ubuntu are you using?
