can't play mp3 files - help!

i have tried following the instructions in this answer - https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amarok/+question/7637 but haven't had any luck - amarok still freezes and comes up with a 'no mp3 support' message.. any ideas?

Did you install the mp3 support files? Are you using feisty? If so click on Applications → Add/Remove, change the setting to all available applications and then select Other in the left panel and select the Ubuntu restricted extras package. Click OK. If you are using kubuntu the process is similar but I don't have KDE so I'm sure were the add/remove is.

I would also suggest you check out Medibuntu (http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/). Together with the Ubutu Restricted Extras you will have most media issues covered.

A reboot might be a good idea once you do this just to make everything is loaded.
