No sound using Amarok in Jaunty

Asked by Ampers

I am using Amarok v2.0.2 in Ubuntu v9.04 and there is NO sound at all.

My sound card is the X-F1 card.

I can play my MP3s in Rhythmbox with NO problems at all.

There is no facility within Amarok to chose sound.

I am seriously thinking of deleting Amarok and concentrating on Rhythmbox but thought I would try one more time.

Ampers.

Installing the following packages worked for me:

ubuntu-restricted-extras
libxine1-ffmpeg
phonon-backend-xine
phonon-backend-gstreamer

Don't know if you really need all of them, but they worked.

Thanks, I had the libxine1-ffmpeg but then downloaded the two phonon packages and nothing immediately, but when I reloaded Linux sound came back, thanks a lot.

How is this solved? You should add a package requirement to the amarok package for "phonon-backend-xine". That's the only package I needed to grab after upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04 to get sound working and amarok gives absolutely no indication that you need the xine backend other than saying "sound device failed".

Yes, I agree. But if you want it fixed, maybe you have to file a bug.

Just got amarok working on Jaunty with your help. Strange enough I never had problems running amarok running previous ubuntu versions. The new interface is definitely something to get used to, but got music going now!! Thanks Bernhard!
But why did amarok itself did not mention this? It remained silent just NOT playing my music.

These packages seemed to work fine for me initially (I even heard the sound when a song started to play), but just after a couple of seconds I got a message in Amarok saying the sound device didn't work and it would switch back to X (didn't catch the notice as it disappeared).

Any thoughts of what might be wrong and how to fix it? I can hear the mp3s fine with e.g. the VLC Media Player. My computer is Fujitsu A 3130 laptop.

I have the same problems too. How can I install these packages? Where can I find them?

sudo apt-get install phonon-backend-xine
sudo apt-get install phonon-backend-gstreamer

Actually the only package needed is phonon-backend-gstreamer. I removed phonon-backend-xine afterwards.
