Unable to transfer files to MTP Samsung YP-K3

Asked by dkl

Hello
I'm using amarok 1.4.5 on Ubuntu Edgy, to be able to connect to my MTP device Samsung YP-K3. Connection works fine, the device is detected, I can see the mp3 audios on it (I use only mp3).

Unfortunately, I am very often (no all the time) unable to transfer audio tracks on it. Here are the errors I get. The result is that a new directory (name of the album) is created EMPTY and duplicated (empty) on the device. Amarok tells me he was unable to copy the tracks. Looking at the trace, there seems to be a mismatch in the PTP protocol...Can anybody help me?

The errors:

Make sure the permissions are set so they can transfer onto the MP3 player.

Are you able to drag and drop?

Hello Daniel

Thanks for the answer. Yes, I'm pretty sure that permissions are not tthe problem, because it happens only after a while (I actually said "very often" in my first messaage). For example, I could transfer some tracks succesfully, and after a while, it blocks on one track. The thing is that, once it blocked on a given track, it's impossible to transfer ANY other track...

I don't use drag and drop, but only the contect menus "transfer to device..."

Hello again

I was suspecting a problem on the Samsung K3 firmware itself... I checked the available firmwares today... and discovered that a 4.03 "UMS compatible" firmware was available from the korean web-site. Well, it works perfeclty, forget all the MTP problems, it's much mode fun now: no need for a specific software, much much faster, etc... You loose the album/title/artist sort functions, but what a difference when transferring tracks!!! Banish MTP...

So for me, the problem is solved.

Hi dkl,

PLEASE, PLEASE could you provide a link to this firmware? I tried to find it on the Korean website, but the translation was very limited, and i didn't understand the rest of it. I have the same problem with my K3. I fixed it by installing Service Pack 2 over my Windows XP, and updating the USB from 1.0 to 2.0. However, the SP2 seems to slow my system right down to a near standstill, so in the end, i had no other option but to uninstall it again. Now i am unable to transfer files to my K3.

Many thanks if you can give a link, i'd be extremely grateful. It's very frustrating having a "new toy" and being unable to play with it!! *grin*

Update your firmware in the normal way (you may need to "format" the device if you get the messsage "18MB needed" or something like that. Then restart it, and change the language (unless you speak fluent koren). Hopefully, you can find lhe "language" item easily.... Have fun!

Thanks very much Denis, you're a star. However i've now discovered a new problem. Because i no longer have Service Pack 2 installed, this means that my USB 2.0 has automatically downgraded back to USB 1.0, which means that my K3 will no longer interface with my computer, therefore i cannot perform the firmware upgrade.

This is extremely frustrating, i seem to be going around in circles. I'm even considering a partition on my hard drive for XP with SP2, just so that i can use it to transfer files to my K3. Either that or somehow i need to upgrade my USB to 2.0, without installing SP2. I've searched everywere trying to find a way of doing this, but so far i've been unsuccessful.

Thanks for your help anyway, i think my only other option now is to return the K3 to the store and get a refund.

Chris

Hello,

I have not changed anything to my K3 since the firmware update (it works fine, both on Linux and Windows). I'm not rellay up to date with the news on this topic, here is a link on which you can find some information, but you have to read french.... "http://forum.generationmp3.com/Samsung-f98.html"
