Installing Amarok 2.0

Asked by skambale

Using Kubuntu 8.10.
I am trying to install Amarok 2.0 and I followed the procedure given on the link

http://amarok.kde.org/en/releases/2.0
Install Instructions
Follow the Kubuntu Repository Guide to enable Recommended Updates (backports) and add the following to your 'Third-Party Software' tab:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu intrepid main
You can now update an existing Amarok 2 installation to the most recent version using the Adept Updater tool in your system tray.
If you do not have an existing Amarok 2 install, please follow the Adept How to and install the package called "amarok-kde4".

I added the link mentioned above in the Repositories and fetched all packages.
But i am unable to find "amarok-kde4" when I do a search using Adept.

Can you try "Adept package management" instead of "Adept Add/Remove software"? It seems the "Add/Remove" application does not show it currently, not sure why myself.

Alternatively you can use the following command in a commandline window to install it:
 sudo apt-get install amarok-kde4

" sudo apt-get install amarok-kde4" solved the problem.

Thanks a lot!

I am using Ubuntu 8.10. I have tried several ways to get Amarok 2 without success.

sudo apt-get install amarok-kde4 gave the following response.

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package amarok-kde4

The only thing I haven't tried is to completely uninstall 1.4 as I don't want to loose the settings I have already created.

What is going on? Does Amarok 2 work with Ubuntu 8.10?

I am trying to upgrade principally because 1.4 runs so slow it is unusable. I have a large music collection, but have no problems running several different players in Windows XP.

Thanks
