No available decoder.

Asked by PaulE

I installed kubuntu edgy from cd; installed all updates, installed amarok and attempted to play a flac file and received the following error:
Error Loading Media
There is no available decoder.

I found and loaded the Amarok 1.4.5 update and experienced the same results.

I found and attempted to install the solution of 2006-12-05 and the files cannot be found.

Is there a solution to this problem?

THANKS for your help.

You need to install libxine-extracodecs.

Thanks for the response!

The multiverse repository was selected, but when I searched for libxine-extracodecs it did not appear.I then searched for and found a page that put me on the trail of the libxine-extracodecs (http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/libs/libxine-extracodecs.) I downloaded and installed (dpkg --install libxine-extracodecs_1.1.1+ubuntu1-2_i386.deb) the codecs, started Amarok, attempted to play a flac file and received the same error message.

I have the following libraries loaded:
libxine-extracodecs, libxine-main1, libxine1 and libxinerama1.

If there is any other information I can offer, please let me know.

I did a little more and closer looking and found that I downloaded and installed the wrong version. I installed the correct version and it works.

THANKS again for your help. It got me to the solution!

I'm wondering if I'm getting my money's worth with this free software. Can't play a radio stream either. Seems like I need a library; but am uncertain on the process.

Not sure about the buntu repos, but in Debian libxine-extracodecs was replaced with libxine1-ffmpeg. Solved my problem with amarok.

Simply install it via Synaptic or use

sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg

in the cosole.
