amarok doesn't play my mp3 on a netdrive

Asked by Manfred Kupper

i tried to stream via smb:// but the error reads network problem or the url protocol is not supported.
that's fine but which protocol is used is not told.
does somebody know how to make amarok to play streams like this?

Use smb4k to mount the directory of the remote machine onto your directory tree and access it the same way as a local file form amarok.

This doesn't solve the problem. Maybe it would but then I should change to KDE. I don't want to. I prefere gnome. To many KDE-Packets have to be installed to run smb4k.
Isn't there a suitable gnome solution?

I don't know of a gui-tool for gnome. You can do it by commandline though if you open a terminal and use the following command

   mount -t smbfs -o Username=<username> //windowspc/share /path/to/mountat

(all into one line !)

I hope this helps

Thank you very much. the mount command does actually nothing, if the -O is small then the mount man appears.
Meanwhile I tested Rhythmbox 0.9.6. Here I can access the network and it play the whole drive. It works but amarok has smoother feeling and apprearance. But what's my aim? Listening to music and Rhythmbox 0.9.6 does it well.

Konqueror did the job for me! Running Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft.
