iPod configure problems w/ 8GB touch & 160GB Classic using Amarok in Ubuntu

Asked by Eternal081905

When I try using either of my current iPod's in Ubuntu I'm running into some problems that I can't find help with;

1)When connecting my jailbroken 8GB touch Ubuntu immediately recognizes it as a "digital camera" and goes nowhere from there
2)However by using Rhythmbox, it's seen by the software and I'm able to use it to transfer songs, ilbiet without any album art (A must have for my linux-shy wife) though I'd much rather use Amarok for everything as an iTunes replacement
3)My 160GB classic is immediately recognized by Ubuntu giving me the icon on my desktop, as well as automatically opening Rhythmbox for it's use. I can transfer songs etc. but again no album art, leading me to believe that it's simply not supported by Rhythmbox.
4)Amarok was able to see the iPod the FIRST time I used it and configured it based on some info I found elsewhere on these forums. Now however it doesnt recognize it EVER.

When I am in the configure Amarok Menu under the devices tab and I click on recognize, I get an error message that says:

No new media devices were found. If you feel this is an error, ensure that the DBUS and HAL daemons are running and KDE was built with support for them. You can test this by running "dcop kded mediamanager fullList" in a Konsole window.

When I run this command It says;

call failed

I'm VERY new to linux, but I'm running the newest of everything to my knowledge, with the newest x64 version of Ubuntu. A friend of mine came over to help me out on this (who seems fairly knowledgable with Ubuntu), and he couldn't come up with anything, but recommending I come on here.

I've used different USB ports, tryed installing Amarok over again, and cried a little, nothing seems to work. I've got a HUGE music collection and my wife and I are addicted to our iPod's, any ideas would be appreciated.

Other than this issue I'm really liking my short experience with Ubuntu, espesially the trade-off of this being my only trip-up, and loosing EVERYTHING in windows no less than 5 times with windows vista, in the last month.

Thanks everyone.

After trying, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=619615 No changes happen. Amarok doesnt even autodetect either of them. I've gone ahead and installed EVERY synaptic package installer I could find that has anything to do with an ipod, hopefully I'll get lucky. I can't seem to find anyone else whos having these problems though. Can it be that my install of Ubuntu isn't setup properly? Is there somehow I can tell?

Is it possibly an x64 thing?
