Is there a way to update media info automatically from online resources?

Asked by nate

I have ubuntu 7.10, gutsy gibbon, and I would like to use amarok for my music, but I want to be able to have amarok update the artist/album/track information automatically. Is that possible? And if not with amarok, with some other program? I'm looking for something like windows media player I guess. Thanks a lot to whoever can help me out.

Searched the Script Manager and found nothing that does the job. You may try contacting a skilled contributor to the Script Manager for Amarok directly to request that they code something in Python to get the job done. I'd like to see your request implemented. Maybe someone has better insight than I, so I'm going to watch this one closely.

i don't know if this is implemented in amarok yet, in the meantime i recommend to give easytag a try. it can perform cddb/freedb lookups for several media file types. i use it to manage the id tags of my mp3, flac and ogg files. for the lookup to work, all files of a complete album must reside in one folder and in the correct order (that is, with correct track numbers in their filename). go to that folder in easytag, select all files and perform the "cd data base search" from the misc menu (or press the cd symbol, or ctrl+b). does this help or did i miss your request?

Can you help with this problem?
