Amarok Sound Problems

Asked by cheese91822

Okay! I have recently installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my computer. When i run amarok the sound just does not work. I have installed all of the codecs and the music does play i just cannot hear it. When i went into the engine setting i got so confused because i don't know what the hell any of the stuff means. I learnt some stuff about it and i have tried to change some of the controls in the engine tab and the sound still does not work. The sound however does play in other programs like the movie player but it also does not work in kaffiene. I realized that both kaffiene and Amarok are both KDE and i have gnome desktop so maybe that could be a problem?

The settings in the engine are as follows
Sound system - xine Engine
Output plugin - alsa
Speaker Aragement - Stereo 2.0

I have a "c-media pci cmi8738 mc6" audio device

Please try and give me quite simple steps of how to solve it... I am a but of a noob :)

I just installed ubuntu 8.04 (x86), along with all the codecs out there.
I can hear everything with the default player (Movie player) but nothing comes out of amarok, mplayer, vlc although they start to play.
I have a simple creative usb soundcard.

Do you have more than one audio solution? After a very frustrating week, I learned in the forums Ubuntu will just randomly pick whatever sound card it feels like. Amarok might work one day then go quiet the next. I don't know why the other players still worked, but they always did, just to mock me I suppose.

Do a Synaptic search for "default sound card" . I installed "asoundconf-gtk" and opened "Default Sound Card" in the Preferences menu. Chose my Audigy, and ended the madness. Hope this helps someone else.

Good luck.
