Cannot play with usb speakers

Asked by unziberla

Hi all!
I'm just new to the linux ambient, and i cannot play music with amarok.
At first try to play an mp3 it asked me to install mp3 codec and i did it, then now the player seems to read the songs (equalizer moving, pointer going forward), but nothing from my speakers.
The problem could be that i use usb speakers, i already set them in "System -> audio" and for other application (and for the OS) they work perfectly, but maybe i need to set something also on Amarok.
Thank for any help.

First double click on the loudspeaker (right-top) icon put all your Volume cursors on

Then open Amarok

- Go to Amarok menu:
Settings->Configure Amarok-> Select engine -> Configure engine -> and try settings for the "Output plugin" (try Autodetect or Alsa or ...)

Thank you very much, but i wasn't able to resolve.
I saw in audio control that my usb speakers uses "Alsa mixer", but also setting it as engine in Amarok did'nt work, as far as all the other options.
Now i really don't know what could be.

HI,

could you list an lsusb output and could you check whether the driver for it is loaded via lsmod. Your usb speakers should be available as a device in Settings > preferences > sound as a seperate device in that case. Also check volume is not muted and so on. Im also pretty new but have been able to configure my usb cam this way. It could be that you have to install the drivers manually for your usb speakers. you can add a module into your kernel using insmod but I would always read README file that comes with a linux driver. and follow the installation instructions.

cheers

You might try this because it works BUT there is a trick to it (suprise, suprise)

Go to your synaptic and load xmms as a sound device, when you go into the preferences (small icon on the left side at the top) in there you will see an option to configure the alsa settings. In the device list will be your labtec speakers, select them as the device.

Now test the playback in xmms, if it is OK go back and look at the preferences. Odds are it will read something like hw:1,0

this is a key to getting everything working. now go to your xine engine (preferably in master of the universe mode)set the audio driver from auto to alsa, and set the output devices for audio mono and stereo to the hw:1.0 value.

You may need to repeat this for other multimedia apps, bui it does work, I am listening to my labtec USBs as I type.

Can you help with this problem?
