Media button driver for Dell E1505 for Amarok

Asked by Alyssia

I am using Amarok 1.4.7 and I need a driver to make the media buttons on my Dell E1505 work with this program. They worked with Rhythmbox. The volume buttons work but the play, next etc do not.

Usually this should work right away. Though maybe there is some problem in case you're using GNOME.

You can set the shortcuts manually: Settings -> Configure Global Shortcuts... -> select the action you want to change -> click the "key button" -> now press the actual key which should be used, hopefully you get something "XF86AudioNext" -> click OK and voilà the key should work.

If it does not show _any_ key name when you're trying to set one: indicates that somehow Amarok (or rather the KDELibs) don't recognize that you pressed the button and we have to find a better solution.

I just found the solution to this. The global shortcuts should be configured as you described in Amarok, but then you must go to System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts in your application menu and clear out the settings for Play/Pause, Stop, Skip, etc... Once those are disabled the media buttons work in Amarok.

Can you help with this problem?
