why it depends on debugging symbols

Asked by Gernot Pansy

i don't think that amarok-kde4 have to depend on amarok-kde4-dbg (debugging) or is the alpha state the reason for that?

You are right, normally packages do not depend on their -dbg packages. In this case it does, and the changelog tells it was requested by the upstream amarok-kde4 developers:

amarok-kde4 (1.83-0ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Initial release
  * amarok-kde4 depends on the -dbg package as requested by upstream
  * Mention that this is a preview version as requested by upstram

The package description gives a bit more background:

NOTE: this is an alpha quality release, and therefore a lot of crashes
and bugs are to be expected, the Amarok team as well as the Ubuntu team kindly
asks you to report all issue at http://bugs.kde.org

The debug package will make bug reports more useful.

I tried amarok-kde4 under "Intrepid" (Gnome) and the debug info may be good for developers, it crash at first run.
I report a bug and i attached debug infos...
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amarok-kde4/+bug/254517

hope this helps
