Amanda/Zmanda installation failure under 9.10

Asked by PeterDz

I am trying to get Amanda installed to act as a backup system for a small heterogeneous system (mixture of Ubuntu and XP). I am running 9.10 in server mode. I downloaded and am following the installation guides.

In particular while a large number (all?) packages appear to have been loaded it won't run amservercheck/amandaservercheck; .conf file appears to be missing (I certainly can't find it to edit) and other files appear to be there but empty. I have run a re-install and it appears to make little difference.

FWIW I am running on an old 1.2 GHz P5 with 20 GB main disk plus 2* 350GB externals and 256MB of internal, ethernet connectivity is fine. The only other app of any significance running is samba

(a) a complete solution would be a great help ;-)
(b) is anyone aware of any of the above and can offer help?
(c) Are there any known problems with 9.10 that I should be aware of?

Thanks,

Peter
