Asked by Chandrasekar R

Hi,
I have installed ubuntu OS in my computer. I could not hear audio output. When I gave the
following command LSPCI | GREP AUDIO the terminal shows the following result.

chandran@chandran-desktop:~$ lspci | grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio
Controller (rev 01)
chandran@chandran-desktop:~$

My processor-Intel Celeron (D) CPU 420@1.6 GHz,

Memory-489.1 MiB,

OS-Ubuntu 9.10 [safe graphic mode],

I have also installed ubuntu-restricted-extras,

Any one can fix the problem?

Hi Chandrasekar R,
Try installing "linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic" (then reboot). A number of audio problems on laptops have been resolved by installing this package. Also please ensure there are no extra "alsa model quirks" in your /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf.

I forgot to mention that you may also need to un-mute some audio channels using alsamixer. See the following question for details on how to do that.
