Cannot have sound from my Firewire SOLO on Ubuntu

Asked by Nezurian

Hello.

I've been using Ubuntu for nearly 9 months. Since I first installed Ubuntu, I've been looking for a way to hear something from my M-Audio Firewire SOLO sound card. But I cannot.

I've been searching for Ubuntu forums (no universal answers or instructions to build sound card and get sound - just answers for small, particular problems) (noone answers for my call to explain what must one do in order to get sound from the card), FFADO project documentation, Jack Documentation, Ubuntu Documentation and that westcoastsucces stuff - which helps to just recording and get sound only from "ardour" !! . And I got a HUGE nothing. Nothing at all.

Ubuntu Documentation tries to explain how to use Firewire Devices in Ubuntu "Studio". But that explanation is not helpful at all, you still cannot hear any sound from your soundcard.

I tried to find any clues to direct the sound like - ALSA ---> Jack ---> (using Ffado) ---> M-Audio Firewire Solo ---> My monitors. But could find nothing, again .

The only thing I know is, this sound card is somehow working well in Ubuntu. Theres like 49 people who's using Firewire Solo on ubuntu - which FFADO pages tells me.

So I do "request" an explanatory help. I can beg for this. Or else I will have to return to damn windows.

I want you to think that I have a Fresh install of ubuntu. I don't know anything. And I want to setup my soundcard and get sound from it.

Please Help. Please!

Why is there no answer on this for over 2 years now? I'm having the same problem. Want to use Ubuntu but have to return to windows because there is no support on getting this device to work!!!

please help!
how can I get audio.
how can I see if it is detected (when I go to sound settings no audio card is detected)
Is it the firewire card that is installed (maybe I don't know how I can find this)

Also a newby that rather go for ubuntu with sound!

Thanks in advance!

Please read the WHOLE history in the following thread:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1648518

The person "eamner" went through hell and did lots of troubleshooting and still had to give up and sell his Firewire Solo card.

I get the impression that Ubuntu hates this piece of hardware.....
