sound troubles in ubuntu 9.10

I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 and I am having problems with the audio.

Your ALSA mixer settings show the following problem: Master and PCM volume channels are muted and set to 0%

Please open alsamixer or gnome-alsamixer using the Linux Terminal and then unmute and increase volume on the following channels:
