Sound works with headphones but not with laptop speakers (sony vaio VGN-G2) in Ubuntu 9.10
Codec: Realtek ALC262
Codec: Conexant ID 2c06
Sound worked perfectly with Windows 7 but since I got Ubuntu 9.10 it works only with headphones.

Hi,
In System/
pulse
pulse-access
pulse-rt
Then please try this procedure:
Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications-
Terminal"
Step 2: Run the following command (copy/paste command into the Terminal and then hit <enter>)
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.
In gedit, scroll down and add these 2 lines to the end of the /etc/modprobe.
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel enable=1 index=0 model=hippo
If those alsa-base.conf options don't work, please try these 2 lines instead and reboot after making the change:
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel enable=1 index=0 model=basic
Here are more model options:
ALC262

49 hp-bpc HP xw4400/
50 hp-bpc-d7000 HP BPC D7000
51 hp-tc-t5735 HP Thin Client T5735
52 hp-rp5700 HP RP5700
53 benq Benq ED8
54 benq-t31 Benq T31

56 hippo_1 Hippo (Benq) with jack detection
57 sony-assamd Sony ASSAMD
58 toshiba-s06 Toshiba S06
59 toshiba-rx1 Toshiba RX1
60 tyan Tyan Thunder n6650W (S2915-E)

62 lenovo-3000 Lenovo 3000 y410
63 nec NEC Versa S9100
64 basic fixed pin assignment w/o SPDIF
65 auto auto-config reading BIOS (default)
Don't forget to reboot your pc after every change you make to the /etc/modprobe.
So add the hippo model option, reboot, retest sound. Then - if necessary - replace the hippo model option with the basic model option, reboot and retest sound.
Also make sure to run alsamixer after each change and make sure all channels remain unmuted after each reboot.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Mark
