Your output from step 4 shows the issue your pc is having:

/dev/snd/controlC0: Slmodemd 926 F.... slmodemd

Your Si3054 Modem is hogging the /dev/snd devices, which is preventing your soundcard from working correctly.

So you need to disable the Si3054 Modem (56k modem)

I have disabled the SmartLink modem daemon via System>Admin>Hardware drivers. I have rebooted and still no sound! What do I do next?

Thank you Mark! I just found out it was on 'Mute'. I un-muted it and the sound is back! Cheers!
