No sound on Acer Aspire 3680 yet again!

I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 and had sound issues which was solved when I used the procedure at http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2009/10/29/upgrade-alsa-1-0-21-on-ubuntu-karmic-koala-9-10/. I was shocked to notice that the sound is gone again! I need help to solve this issue permanently.
