Install Realtek High Definition Audio driver

Asked by Ted Daniels

Just installed Ubuntu 7.04. It doesn't have a driver for my card, Realtek High Definition Audio, on Acer laptop Aspire 3662WL.Mi. I searched for a linux driver, and downloaded realtek-linux-audiopack-3.5-6, which seems to have the required files in it. But I don't know how to go from there. I am pretty new to linux, and think I may have to do it from the Command Line, using apt-get?
Can anyone help?
Ted

First of all, can you run the first script on this page and paste here the resulting url?

Thanks.

No, its not, but never mind.
I would suggest you wait for Gutsy where this issue is fixed.
If, and only IF, you feel brave, you can attempt to follow the instructions here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto

If you don't understand the instructions or the commands, don't do it.
Perhaps get more confortable with Linux and in a couple of weeks try again.

I am using ACER Aspire 5583NWXMi laptop and I had the same problem as well on Ubuntu 7.04 that i just downloadloaded.
But I got around the sound on the headset(at Least) by selecting OSS inside the sound Preferences from the system/preferences/sound selections. In the devices selection, instead of Autodetect, I choose OSS with the device box under Device Mixer Tracks selected to Realtek ALC883(OSS Mixer)

Then going to the Sounds to do the tests, it was OK.
Good luck!

Thanks to Cesare Tirabassi, Simple2k, andpanca indera for your suggestions, but no luck so far, I got lost trying to follow Cesare's last help, I opened the script given by Simple2k, but don't know what I should do then, and my Acer must be different from the5583NWXM - whilst I can select devices in the other applications, there is nothing to select from in the Device Mixer Tracks section.
Still trying!

@Simple2k: you should not post your problems in other people's questions. Please open a new question just for you.

@Ted Daniels: Start by the suggestions at the end of that page (adding the model=<something> to your options file). Some users reported that was enough to solve their problem.
