Codec + Mixer: Conexant CX20561 (Hermosa) - CONEXANT Analog (DUPLEX) Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:293e] (rev 03) - no sound on Lenovo Thinkpad T500 in Ubuntu 9.10 - using ALSA driver v1.0.21

Asked by whitenoise

Hi,

I haven't been able to get my Lenovo Thinkpad T500 to output sound under Ubuntu 9.10. I've looked in the mixer and my output is not muted. Synaptic package manager says that I have alsa-driver-linuxant_1.0.20.3_all.deb.zip. I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it. I spend two days unsuccessfully trying to build it from source--I ran into all sorts of problems with the Linux kernel headers. To be honest, I'm not positive that these are the right drivers anyway. If they are, the output below shows that they haven't installed correctly in the first place. Regardless, I simply could not get the conexant or alsa drivers (ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.20.tar.bz2) to build. I kept getting errors that seemed to reflect that my linux headers situation, including the stuff under /usr/src and /lib/modules was not set up correctly.

I also tried installing the linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic package. I believe it was installed at the time I generated the output above.

My diagnostic output is below--I've included everything I've seen that has been requested in other postings. I really appreciate your help. Thank you very much.
