After upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10, sound does not work

Sound stopped working after upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10; it worked on 9.04 and prior - if I boot into Winows, the sound works. My machine is an HP Pavilion a550y; the sound card is a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS. I've tried various commands like "aplay -l" and the soundcard seems to be found. I've upgraded to the latest alsa version. Here's the output from the alsa-info script, posted at:

"Simple mixer control 'Master',0" means that your sound is muted. Use alsamixer command (if 'command not found' install the package) in a terminal and increase the volume for all devices. Also you can go to System --> Preferences --> Sound and play a little with the settings in Hardware tab (set Profile to Analog Stereo Duplex) and in Output tab (chose Internal Audio Analog Stereo).

Thanks so much for the tip. I had tried alsamixer, but I guess I didn't experiment enough. I had the master volume turned all the way up, but when I went through and toggled a couple of other things from muted, it worked.
